All about Chilkoot Horseback Adventure



Escape the hustle and bustle of port and come discover the awe-inspiring Alaskan beauty just as the pioneers did—on horseback! After an entertaining historic tour through charming Skagway and along the breathtaking coastline, you will arrive at our ranch in Dyea. Your experienced guides will give you a safety presentation, then help you onto your very own horse! For one hour and forty-five minutes you will ride through the Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park. Along the way, your knowledgeable guides will entertain you with tales from the crazed Klondike Gold Rush, such as the boom and bust of the town of Dyea. You’ll pass by some of the few remaining signs of what was once a scrambling gold rush town of 10,000, including the Slide Cemetery. Then you will ride out of the rainforest and onto the Dyea flats overlooking the northern tip of the Lynn Canal. Discover why the locals come here to view wildlife such as eagles and the salmon run. Soak in the serenity and marvel at the majestic mountains, streams, and Alaskan wildflowers. This adventure is sure to invigorate those who have been lured to Alaska by tales of its spectacular and inspiring beauty. After the ride, relax with your guides as you enjoy refreshments and Alaskan salmon pate. Reflect on your serene adventure during the scenic drive back to town. Restrictions: Round-trip transportation provided. Must weigh less than 250 lbs. Must be at least 4’10” or 58 in. Any personal physical restrictions must be announced, for safety purposes, upon confirmation of payment received.

Yes, you will be introduced to your very own horse. You two will then enjoy time together on the trail for about 1 hour and 45 minutes.

To keep our horses healthy, all guests will mount with the aid of a mounting block. Step up a few stairs to a platform and then simply swing your leg over the top of the horse and sit down.

The tour is set up to be enjoyable for guests of all skill levels and is strictly a “walking” tour at an easy pace, no galloping or running with the horses.

You remain on the horse for the full trail ride and dismount once back at the ranch.
